Statistics on Working Moms

If you are a working mom you should realize that you are not alone. There are millions of women in the world in a similar situation. Once you take a closer look at some statistics on working moms you will see that you are part of a very large group.

Did you know that roughly 72 percent of women with a child over the age of one work? This is just about the same as women who have no children. Many people find it hard to believe that these numbers are so close, but they are. Believe it or not, in 1976 only 39 percent of women with a child over the age of one had a job. As you can see, a lot has changed over the years.

What about mothers with children under the age of one? Fifty-five percent of these moms hold down a job, compared to 31 percent in 1976.

Now that you know more about how many working moms there are, it is time to take a closer look at their “home life.” The average mom with a full-time job spends 13 hours per day at work and at home completing chores such as preparing meals, washing clothes, etc. This is hard for many people to believe, but it is true; most moms really do work this hard.

All in all, over 50 percent of mothers have a job regardless of the age of their child. This number has greatly increased over the past 30 years, and may continue to do so. Hopefully these statistics on working allow you to see that you are not alone.
