It is difficult to list the best place to work for working moms because everybody is in a different position. Some moms have work experience, others are joining the workforce for the first time, and many are stuck in between. That being said, there are some things to look for when seeking a job as a working mom:

1. Flexible hours. Even though you may not be able to find a job that is extremely flexible, anything you can get in this area is important. With a flexible schedule you can take off if need be, or make up hours in the morning or evening. As a mother you never know when something will come up that you need to take care of on the spot.

2. Not too stressful. Okay, this is a difficult one. Almost every job has some sort of stress involved. This is not to say that you should avoid a job with responsibility, because that does not make sense. But you do want to get involved with a position that you are comfortable in.

3. No travel. For some mothers, going out of town is not an option. When applying for jobs make sure you ask this question upfront. If you take a job that requires out of town travel you will need to find something to do with your child. Will this be a problem?

If you are a working mom, try to find a job that fits the description above. You may not get every benefit you want, but work hard to find an opportunity that offers those that are most important to you.

Statistics on Working Moms http://workforcemoms.org/statistics-on-working-moms/ http://workforcemoms.org/statistics-on-working-moms/#comments Fri, 13 Mar 2009 06:04:15 +0000 admin http://workforcemoms.org/?p=66 If you are a working mom you should realize that you are not alone. There are millions of women in the world in a similar situation. Once you take a closer look at some statistics on working moms you will see that you are part of a very large group.

Did you know that roughly 72 percent of women with a child over the age of one work? This is just about the same as women who have no children. Many people find it hard to believe that these numbers are so close, but they are. Believe it or not, in 1976 only 39 percent of women with a child over the age of one had a job. As you can see, a lot has changed over the years.

What about mothers with children under the age of one? Fifty-five percent of these moms hold down a job, compared to 31 percent in 1976.

Now that you know more about how many working moms there are, it is time to take a closer look at their “home life.” The average mom with a full-time job spends 13 hours per day at work and at home completing chores such as preparing meals, washing clothes, etc. This is hard for many people to believe, but it is true; most moms really do work this hard.

All in all, over 50 percent of mothers have a job regardless of the age of their child. This number has greatly increased over the past 30 years, and may continue to do so. Hopefully these statistics on working allow you to see that you are not alone.

After all, staying depressed is not the answer. And since there are many ways to get over this you might as well take advantage.

Other moms face depression because they are not ready to head back to work. In other words, they would rather stay at home with their child for the foreseeable future. And while this is possible for some moms, many of them have to get back to work in order to make money for the family. If you are experiencing this type of depression you should look into all your options including working part-time. Of course, a lot of this depends on how much money you need and the type of job that you have.

Many working moms become depressed for one reason or the next. This can be difficult to deal with, but not impossible. Once you know what is causing your depression you can find a solution that will work for both you and your child.
